Slaughterhouse Craft

About Us

Slaughterhouse Craft is a craft cider and mead producer located just west of Prince George BC. Operating in what used to be an abattoir, they use classic cider specific apple varieties and clover honey from the Nechako Valley to produce small batch traditional ciders and meads.

It all started when the old apple trees on the property Mitchell and Emily Hawse had recently bought produced a bumper crop in 2017. Not knowing what do with all the apples led to an internet search that landed on a page explaining the procedure for making cider. Curious about the process Mitchell decided to give it a go; the results were amazing, and a seed was planted. Fast forward to 2020. After a couple years of pondering, planning, and procrastinating Mitchell decided to really try and turn what had now become a serious hobby into something more. He brought in Samuel Shenk as a business partner and together they laid out a business plan. That fall they went about applying for their license and it was granted in December 2021. The rest is pretty much history!
